Glen Christie

Company Director, business executive and entrepreneur with extensive South African and international experience in public affairs and in the hospitality industry. Diverse background covers wide and particularly high level experience in international public relations  and tour planning, control and management, as well as the business management and control of hotels, restaurants and catering services. This experience covers South Africa(particularly the Western Cape), the United Kingdom, the Middle East and the USA. Glen Christie is a registered South African tour guide with hands-on experience in all aspects of tourism in South Africa.

1996 to present OWNER AND EXECUTIVE PARTNER of Vineyard Ventures, a specialized South African tour operating company with excellent reputation in the industry, situated in Cape Town. Vineyard Ventures is recommended in many reputable guide books , such as Fodors Guide and the John Platter South African wine guide. Glen deals with all aspects of the business on a daily basis, including the planning and execution of tours for groups and individuals, the marketing of the company’s services, hands-on guiding for groups and individuals, and the management of the company’s overall business and finances.

1993-1996 Served as the United States Representative for WESGRO, a South African (Western Cape) regional growth organization prior to taking up a posting in the Washington D.C. office of the South Africa Foundation.

1988-1993. REGIONAL DIRECTOR (CAPE) AND NATIONAL PUBLIC AFFAIRS MANAGER, South Africa Foundation, Johannesburg and Cape Town. During this period the Foundation was a 3 000 plus member association governed by a Board of Trustees and a Counsel that included most of South Africa’s leading business figures. It built and maintained relations between leadership echelons in South Africa and the international community.

Expanded membership by 22% in the Cape region Programmed visits by international policy-makers/opinion formers from the business, political, media and academic sectors to meet their South African counterparts. Maintained contact with South African leaders across the political spectrum to facilitate this function. Planned and managed over 50 top-level delegations each year.

Arranged membership conferences, introducing leading national and regional political and business leaders to international commentators. Arranged speakers, negotiated sites, arranged press conferences.

Developed and managed regional public affairs office for the Foundation, hired and supervised staff, built up media liaison programme and served as the Foundation spokesperson in the Cape Province.

1987-1988 Founding partner, In Residence, Cape Town, an executive property management firm serving the Cape. Developed business concept and market positioning for innovative service in a community with part time occupancy in over 25% of executive facilities

Planned  and conducted service launch, handles publicity, helped develop service contractor networks, built client base and negotiated retainers.

1979-1986 CORPORATE DIRECTOR AND MANAGER of Concorde Bloodstock Agency Ltd, Isle of Man. A major stud farm producing top thoroughbreds for European, American, French and Australian racing stables.

Developed and implemented public relations campaign, positioning farm’s stock as consistent winners on the racing circuit and increasing sales 246% in 3 years

Developed sales contact, negotiated contracts to obtain improved pricing for the farm’s stud pricing for the farm’s stud services.

1972-1978 JOINT MANAGEMENT DIRECTOR, Casan Company, Tehran, the largest hospitality management firm in Iran, providing hotels, resorts, casinos, restaurants and airline catering and related services through numerous subsidiaries. Responsibilities covered direction and management of successful and profitable company with 2000 employees

Regularly hosted and entertained guests of Iranian royal family and international VIPs (UK prime minister, US secretary of state, several national head of state , others)

Developed marketing and public relations campaigns for European markets covering related hospitality services from subsidiary companies.

Company terminated activities at the time of Iranian Revolution.
